The Digby Tap’s new team “Tappy Tap” (82 points) won the 2023 Pool League title, beating The White Hart’s Cuemydia (79 Points) in a tight race. Digby Tap A came in a very respectable third position.
Players
Out of the 105 registered league players, here are the Digby Tap players, with their 2023 season’s statistics:
Cricket – Since Covid, we have not restarted our fixtures but hope to do so the coming season 2023.
Boules – We have a social boules team who are normally invited to play against Sherborne Boules Club on December 26<sup>th</sup>. We have in the past also played The Chetnole Chuckers.
Pool – The Tap has 2 pool teams that play in the Sherborne League on Tuesday evenings.

The most coveted game is where the player breaks and clears, also known as an 8 ball finish or ‘break and dish’
Stats for this Season have not yet been released but last season there were 12 of these finishes during the course of last season, 5 of them by Digby Tap players
The league has been running since the turn of the century and is open to all those who drink or eat in our fine establishment. The aim of the game is to select a football team from footballers in the English Premier League and then manage the team throughout the season. The game uses the Sun Newspaper’s scoring system and is most commonly entered via the Sun’s mobile phone app. You can also fill out an entry form that is found behind the bar at The Digby Tap and enter it that way at the start of each season. You will, however, need access to a phone app or web browser to manage the team as you go through the season. 5 player changes are allowed each month and there is a What’s app group for the players to exchange thoughts
On Sunday, the annual Digby Tap Pie (well Rillette) Competition was held. Some interesting and unusual rillettes were produced and although there was a shout of tactical voting, Steve was declared the overall winner.
When told of this, his wife Ginny was beside herself as the last thing she had told Steve, as he left the house, was ‘do not win that b****y’ trophy!!!’ How apt!
Another fun filled day up at Royal and Ancient Folke Golf Club ended with Sheridan being crowned 2019 individual winner. The team prize went to Sheridan, Skip and Dai.
Luckily Steve at Folke GC arranged the weather again as sunshine followed the groups around all day.
There was some great golf interspersed with some dreadful play! However the day will be remembered for some bad driving, of the buggy kind…landlord Olly had his clubs run over by his team mate and driver broken whilst an ex landlord of the Mermaid had buggy rage and broke a tee marker!

On a glorious Thursday evening the Tap and Rose & Crown rocked up to Compton House CC for the first test. Luckily the Tap’s Mike Brearley styled captain, Nicks, won the toss and elected to field. This meant several members would not be incapable of doing so. Disciplined bowling limited the Rose & Crown to 162. The wickets were shared (Olly 2, Humpy 2, Nog 3) but the best bowler was Hannah (with 2) who totally outbowled her brothers, much to their chagrin!
The Tap openers, Ash and Gupps, got off to a solid start before Gupps was out. This brought Guy out to the middle and both he and Ash carried on the good work with both retiring having hit 50 runs. Humps strode out and immediately strode back in again and so it was left to the ‘chuckle’ Sargent boys to score the winning runs.

I have a feeling that the R&C will be off to net practice if Lamby gets his way!

After a busy Ashen Faggot burning, Olly took the staff for their annual day out which involved driving like lunatics, fine dining and a couple of libations!
The Go Karting was eventful and as I did not win…enough said!! Well done though to Andrew, Tony and Charlotte for getting on the podium.
A quick minibus ride into Bristol harbourside for a meal (needed but I can not for the life of me remember the name of the restaurant) followed by several beers, table tennis and some dressing up in The Old Vic before the long trip home…all slightly quieter than when we started.

The annual Tap Pie Competition took place yesterday…
This year’s creation was a Cornish Pasty and 12 entries were produced, the highest ever. After all the tasting the trophy was presented to Paul who duly filled it with port to finish off a great afternoon.
